Travel Information About Larnaca

Larnaca is the main city on Cyprus and enjoys a dry perch on its southern coast and the cheapest time to fly to there is between October and February. The town (population 78,000) is a small but fashionable ribbon of a city, home to a number of stunning beaches filled with chic sunbathers and open-air tavernas. Phinikoudes and McKenzie beaches are known for their spotlessness. Locals stroll under the palm trees of the seaside Larnaca Promenade (Phinikoudes) at dusk, while tourists dance the night away in the city's clubs. Almost 10,000 hotel rooms populate the place, and there's something for every taste, from budget to luxury. Rugged mountains beyond are home to traditional villages and ancient sights that date back to the 13th century BC. No wonder nearly 2.5 million visitors get flights to Larnaca every year.

The island's main point of entry is the Larnaca International Airport (LCA), located about six and a half kilometres west of the city. Larnaca Airport is often used as a hub by passengers travelling from the UK and Europe to the Middle East, with over 50 airlines offering cheap flights there. The Larnaca International Airport (LCA) is undergoing a major expansion, with the first phase scheduled to be completed in 2009, and the second in 2013. Once complete, Larnaca International Airport (LCA) will be able to handle up to 9 million passengers annually, so it will be even easier to find flights to Larnaca, and they will be cheaper!

Near the airport is the Larnaca Salt Lake, home to hundreds of flamingos during winter and early spring. Also nearby is the underground chapel of Ayia Phaneromeni, an ancient rock cavern said to have magical healing properties, and thus a favourite local pilgrimage site. No matter where you go in the area, you are sure to feel the stunning island's magic as well.
